Since their debut in 2016 Athlete Whippet’s hazy sun-kissed tracks found love by DJs worldwide including Scuba, Bicep, Laurent Garnier, Rob da Bank and Tom Ravenscroft as well as support by BBC1 & 6 and XLR8R, Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, Mixmag and Trax.
Their new record sees them collaborate with Olugbenga (on vocals) who's best known as a long-standing member of Metronomy. As a bass player, vocalist and writer the Kenya-born artist has lent his talents to groups such as Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, Paloma Faith, La Roux and Solange Knowles. But also as a solo artist Olugbenga has been making waves in recent years releasing music to support from Lauren Laverne, Rob da Bank and Huw Stephens as well as outlets including The Fader, Noisey, Mixmag and the Independent and DJ mixes for Boiler Room, Dummy, i-D, Okayafrica, Clashmusic, XLR8R and many more.
Athlete Whippet's previous releases have come with reworks including Brainfeeder’s Ross From Friends, Baltra, Max Graef, Seb Wildblood, Dekmantel’s Awanto 3, Brownswood’s Simbad and Horse Meat Disco founder Severino. 2018's 12" debut 'Hands Only' and an outing on Berlin's House and Disco institution Exploited Records have seen them share the stage with acts including Simian Mobile Disco and Ian Pooley. The duo revealed their second EP ‘Corporate Guy’ in May 2019, which has seen endorsement from DJ Mag, Boiler Room, i-D, Trax, Inverted Audio and DJs including The Black Madonna, Eclair Fifi and Busy P. The two lead singles ‘Blue Lagoon’ and title track ‘Corporate Guy’ have landed on Spotify’s influential playlists “House is a Feeling’ and ‘Groove Theory’ (‘Corporate Guy on #1) and the two hold down a monthly slot on Rinse FM since June 2019. This year also sees the duo introduce a new series of club nights 'Athlete Whippet Invite' with guests so far including Asquith, Will Saul and Anu.
